Searching for resources

You can search SafeLinx for attributes associated with specific resources.

You can search for attributes that are associated with specific resources from the Resources pane or from the Tasks pane.

Searches can include an asterisk (*) as a wildcard character to represent zero or more characters in a string of characters. For example, a search for the string
run*g
returns any string that begins with run, is followed by one or more other characters, and ends with the letter g. For example, "running."

You can search all organizational units (OUs), or you can select the organizational unit in which to search. To narrow the list of resources you want to search, click Browse and select the organizational unit in which to search.

  1. Open the Find Resource dialog box by using one of the following methods:
    • From the Resources pane, click Find....
    • From the Tasks pane, click Find a resource.
  2. From the Resource field, specify the type of resource to search,
  3. In the Search in field, specify the OU in which to search..
  4. In the Search criteria field, specify whether to search for a resource that matches any of the search criteria or all of the search criteria.
  5. Specify additional search criteria as needed to identify the resource and then click Find now.
For example, to search for all stand-alone users who are connected:
  1. Click the User resource.
  2. Click search in All OUs.
  3. Click connected in the Current status field.
  4. Click Find now.

  3. Click running in the Current state.
  4. Click Find now.

The search also supports the boolean logical operators, Or, and And.

For example, you defined an OU as Ontario and added users with a description of Sales to that OU. To search for all users in the OU Ontario, which is defined with fixed IP addresses, and who have the description of Sales:
  1. Click the User resource.
  2. Click Browse... and select the Ontario OU.
  3. Click And in the search criteria group box.
  4. Click fixed addresses in the IP address assignment type field.
  5. Enter Sales in the Description field.
  6. Click Find now.
For example, a user whose name is Cathy Johnson with a user ID of catjo has a fixed IP address of 9.12.34.56. If you are unsure how to spell the name or user ID, you could enter the following search criteria, using Or search criteria and still having matching results:
  1. Click the User resource.
  2. Click search in All OUs.
  3. Click Or in the search criteria field.
  4. Enter Johnsn in the Full name field.
  5. Enter catjoe in the User ID field.
  6. Enter 9.12.34.56 in the IP address field.
  7. Click Find now. In this case, the IP address match displays the user.
