Creating and editing Find criteria

In order to search the object map, you create a set of criteria you want to use in your search. You can name the set of criteria and save it, so you can use it for other searches. If necessary, you can edit the saved criteria.

Procedure

To create a set of criteria or edit an existing set of criteria for searching the object map:
  1. Open the Set Active Find Criteria dialog box:
    • From the test object map menu, click Find > Find by Filters.
    • From the test object map toolbar, click the Find: Filters button Find: Filters.
  2. To set up new find criteria, click Create. To select a set of existing criteria in the Find Filter Names list, click Edit.

HCL OneTest UI opens the Define Find Filter Properties dialog box.

  3. In the Properties list, select a property to use as find criterion and click >>> to add it to the Filter list. Add as many properties as necessary, clicking >>> after each.

When you add more than one property to the Filter field, HCL OneTest UI groups the objects under an AND folder (the default).

  4. Make any necessary changes to items in the Filter field:
    • Right-click a folder to change it to AND or OR.
    • Group objects by pressing Ctrl and clicking the objects you want to include, right-click, and select Group.
    • Ungroup objects by right-clicking the group folder, and select Ungroup.
  5. Click Next to continue; if you are finished editing, click Finish.

HCL OneTest UI opens the Define Find Filter Relationships dialog box.

  6. Make any necessary changes to the relationship between the properties:
    • In the Filter field, you can click a group folder and change its relationship from AND to OR.
    • In the Filter field, you can click an object and select an Operator and the value for the object.
    • You can select NOT Relationship to search for objects that do not contain the relationship and value you specify.
    • If the Operator is Equal, you can specify a Regular Expression ( RE:) or a Numeric Range ( NR:) in the Value field. For information, see Replacing an Exact-Match Property with a Pattern.
  7. Click Next to continue; if you are finished editing, click Finish.

HCL OneTest UI opens the Define Find Filter Name dialog box.

  8. In the Filter Name field, enter the name you want to use for the set of find criteria. This is the name displayed in the Find Filter Names field of the Set Active Find Criteria dialog box.

When editing, changing the Filter Name copies the set of criteria, creating a new set of criteria and leaving the old set intact.

  9. Click Finish.
HCL OneTest UI closes the Define Find Filter Properties dialog box and reopens the Set Active Find Criteria dialog box, which enables you to run the filter you have created or edited, define a new filter, or edit an existing filter.
