Automating UI testing of android applications

You can use this technical preview feature to automate the testing of Android application by recording and playing back mobile tests on Android mobile devices. You can connect your emulators and mobile devices to the computer, and then record the user interface and hardware actions. You can perform the actions that you want to record by using a virtual client of the mobile device.

The Tech Preview is intended for you to view the capabilities offered for mobile tests supported by in V10.1.0, and to provide your feedback to the product team.

You must install and run the Appium server on your computer before you start recording mobile tests. For more information, refer to the Appium server documentation. You can then configure Android applications and record a test on a mobile device or emulator. During the recording, you can perform various actions on the configured application in a virtual client of the mobile device. The actions that you perform are captured as test steps in the test recording.

You must also specify the Android SDK path in Preferences and point to the directory where the Android SDK is installed before you start recording mobile tests.

You can play back a mobile test by specifying the mobile device or emulator on which you want to run the test. The test results are displayed in the Unified Reports when the playback is complete. You can also play back a compound test containing mobile tests, and specify the different mobile devices or emulators on which you want to run the individual mobile tests.
