  • See Number fields for an explanation of the Control tab settings.

Dialog list, checkbox, radio button, listbox, or combo box

  • Allow values not in list
  • Look up addresses on document refresh - see description in next row: "Authors, names, or readers."
  • Refresh fields on keyword change
  • Refresh choices on document refresh
  • Allow keyword synonyms - this option is checked by default and allows synonyms for the keywords in choice list fields. Use the vertical bar (|) so that the keyword synonym follows the keyword. Keyword synonyms are useful because if the keyword changes, any formula that references the synonym still works. You can also create short synonyms for long keywords (for example: Hardware Sales Division | HW).

Authors, names, or readers

  • Show field delimiters - Check this option to display field delimiters to the user. If this box is checked, brackets appear at the beginning and end of the field in edit mode and disappear in read mode. If you do not check this box, the user may not know exactly where the field begins.

  • Show ellipses (...) if field is truncated - (only for Names fields in Native OS style) Truncates and displays ellipses at the end of the first line of information that would take more than one line of display. The default value is checked.

  • Show online status - Check this option to display an icon representing a user's availablity to chat via Instant Messaging. See "Enabling a Names field for instant messaging" for more information.
  • See Names Lookup options for information on the "Choices" options.
  • Look up names as each character is entered - Helps users fill in a name quickly. Designer looks up a match for the typed letters in the open Personal Address Book or the Domino Directory and either fills in the name or gives users a choice of matching names.
  • Look up addresses on document refresh - (only for Names fields) Helps users add a complete e-mail address. If a user types an incomplete e-mail address (for example: Edith Martin) and then clicks F9 to refresh the document, the complete e-mail address is filled in (for example, Edith_Martin@edith.com). If the name entered in the field is not in the open Personal Address Book or the Domino Directory, a dialog box appears giving users the option to select from a list of similar names.
