Installing WebSphere® Application Server

The IBM® WebSphere® Application Server installation consists of two parts: IBM® Installation Manager and the WebSphere® Application Server itself.

IBM® Installation Manager

The IBM® Installation Manager is used to assist in the installation of WebSphere® Application Server and the corresponding fixpacks. You can go to IBM Installation Manager Knowledge Center for more details.

IBM® WebSphere® Application Server

Since the HCL Docs components are WebSphere-based applications, you must install WebSphere® Application Server, create profiles and servers for each of these applications: Editor Application, Editor Proxy, Document Format Conversion Application, and Viewer Application.

You can go to the System Requirements page for the supported WAS versions information: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27036813. The required minimum version is WAS 8.5.5.4. Find out how to download and install WAS 8.5.5.4 and later fixes by referring to: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27038625. More details can be found in WebSphere Application Server Knowledge Center.
