How to access and author content using HCL Content Composer - Tech Preview

This section provides the steps on how to access Content Composer and use it to author content. Using the HCL Digital Experience 9.5 CF_173 Content Composer - Tech Preview features, content authors can quickly create and edit content, as shown in the examples here.

Prerequisite

Content Composer - Tech Preview should be installed and configured to HCL Digital Experience 9.5 container release update CF_173 in the Install the HCL Digital Experience 9.5 Container Tech Preview components topic.

Note that in this release of HCL Digital Experience 9.5 CF_173 Content Composer - Tech Preview, only the following features are available for use:
  • Content Composer is accessible from the Practitioner Studio interface (after image configuration to DX 9.5 CF_173 deployment).
  • Using Create and View Content Template functions:
    • Support for text elements (numeric, text, short text, and rich text) and media elements (image and files may be added from local sources).
    • Manage default content for text elements (allows adding images in rich text).
  • Using Create, View, Edit, and Delete Content functions:
    • Support for text and media elements with default content.
    • Basic properties of text elements.
  • Search
    • Basic searching, filtering, and sorting of content and content templates are supported.
  • Content Composer supports the use of the English character set.

The following features are not available in HCL Digital Experience 9.5 CF_173 Content Composer - Tech Preview:

Limitations:
  • List of unsupported elements:
    • HTML
    • JSP
    • Date
    • Link
    • Option
    • User selection
  • Setting of content properties, profiles, and other content configurations are not yet supported.
  • The Content Composer functions support English characters only.
  • The Content Composer functions can only be accessed by DX administrator-level user accounts.
  • Edit and Delete of Content templates are not yet supported.
  • Basic properties of media elements (image and file) are not yet supported in Content Composer functions.

Access and Author with Content Composer - Tech Preview

Access the HCL Digital Experience 9.5 Content Composer - Tech Preview from the Practitioner Studio.
  1. Log in to your HCL Digital Experience 9.5 CF_173 or later platform, and select Web Content from the Practitioner Studio navigator.

  2. Select Web Content menu option to access the HCL Digital Experience 9.5 CF_173 Content Composer - Tech Preview features.

Using the Content Composer Tech Preview features, content authors can quickly create and edit content, as shown in the following examples.
Note: In this release of HCL Digital Experience v9.5 – Content Composer - Tech Preview, the following capabilities are available for use:
  • Content Composer is accessible from the Practitioner Studio interface (after image configuration to HCL Digital Experience 9.5 CF_173 or later deployment)
  • Create/View/Edit Content Template:
    • Support for text elements (numeric, text, short text, rich text) and media elements (image from local and file from local)
    • Manage default values for text elements (can also add image in rich text)
    • Edit Content Template
    • Drag and Drop capabilities:
      • Adding of elements (from right side navigation)
      • Reordering of elements
    • Set Default values:
      • Image and File element (from Local storage)
      • Content Metadata (Name, Title, Description)
  • UUID can be copied
  • Search
    • Basic searching, filtering, and sorting of content and content templates are supported.
    • Reordering and Resizing of columns in the search table
      • Description
      • Date Created
      • Date Modified
      • Lifecycle Status

Create new content with Content Composer - Tech Preview

  1. Select the Create Content option from the Content Composer Tech Preview interface and drop down selector. Add a content name, display name and (optional) description. An example is shown below:

  2. Select the template to use to model the content. In this example, the Image template is selected from the Web Content Templates library:

  3. Next, select the site location to present the content when completed and ready for publication. In this example, the Web Content, Articles location is selected:

  4. Select Save to save the content item. A confirmation message appears in the lower left of the interface.

Edit Content using Content Composer - Tech Preview

  1. Access the Content item created using the HCL Digital Experience 9.5 Content Composer – Tech Preview release in the steps above. In this example, the Content item is obtained from the Web Content - Articles site area location.

  2. Move the Read only selector to Edit mode to edit the content. In the Image elements section of the template, drag and drop in image file to add to the content item.
  3. Select the Save button in the upper right of the interface to save your content edits including the image file added to the content item.

    Add text and select Save when completed.
  4. To delete content, open the content item, and select the Delete option from the More dropdown selector on the Content item page.

Create Content Templates using Content Composer - Tech Preview

Using the Content Composer - Tech Preview content template features, content authors can create repeatable template patterns used to model the content to publish to end user audiences.

Follow these steps to create content templates using Content Composer - Tech Preview.
  1. Access the Content Template and Create Template features from the Web Content, Content menu selections in HCL Digital Experience 9.5 Practitioner Studio.

  2. Add a Name, Display name and Description (optional) to the new Content Template.

  3. To add content elements to the content template for use, select the (+) icon, or drag and drop the elements of choice to the content template canvas.

  4. Click the pencil icon to complete the required fields for the content template elements selected, such as text item name and display title.

  5. Choose a Location where the content completed using this content template will be presented to audiences. Select Save to save the Content Template.
