Integrating Connections Content Manager libraries with HCL Connections Docs

If the HCL Connections Docs application is deployed, Connections Docs integrates with the Connections Content Manager (CCM) library app to add new features and to enable co-editing of library document files.

The library interface changes if Connections Docs is deployed. First, new radio buttons are added to the main library page for creating documents, presentations, and spreadsheets directly from within a library. For more information, see Adding files to a library. In addition, a new Edit in Docs button is displayed for document files, use this button to edit library files with the Connections Docs editor. For more information, see Editing files.

The following are labeled as Connections Docs files:
  • Files that you create in Connections Docs
  • Files that you access by using the Edit in Docs button
Note: When you convert an existing file into an Connections Docs file with Edit in Docs, it cannot be converted back into a non-Connections Docs file.
Connections Docs files also have a different icon compared to non-Connections Docs files. If a file is an Connections Docs file, anyone with Edit permission on that file can open the file for editing within Connections Docs, even if the file is checked out by another user. For more information, see Sharing library files and folders.

Changes that are made to files within Connections Docs must be published before they appear when you download and view the file within the File Viewer. The user that checks out a file can publish changes that are made in Connections Docs by using the Save button within the Connections Docs editor. Changes that are made to Connections Docs files are also automatically published when you use Check In or Submit for Review.

Linked libraries also support Connections Docs. However, to use Connections Docs features within a linked library, the library must reside on the FileNet server as used by libraries on your Connections Content manager installation.
Note: Uploading new versions and restoring previous versions is not supported for Connections Docs files.
