Backing up and restoring Metrics dataYou can back up the PowerCube’s data on a monthly basis, or you can back up the entire Metrics database history. It is easier to back up a single month’s worth of PowerCube data than to back up the entire Metrics database history, but backing up the database allows you to rebuild the entire PowerCube if needed.

About this task

The backup schedule for the Metrics database is based on how long the raw metrics data is stored there. For example, if you specify the metrics-config.xml file’s databaseCleanup.eventLifetimeInMonths value as 6, then raw metrics data older than 6 months is purged, so you must back up the Metrics database at least every 6 months to prevent data loss.

Procedure

To back up the Metrics database, complete the following steps:

Select a backup schedule method to back up the Metrics database every month, quarter, or year, depending on the database size and your business needs.
On the database server, back up the database as explained in the database product documentation.
