Defining filters in the Filter window

Use the Filter window to define the filters that you select in the Query editor. The Filter window opens each time you move a filter from the Fields pane in the Query editor to the Filters pane.

About this task

Using the Filter window, you can define static and dynamic filters, as described in the next sections.

Defining static filters in the Filter window

About this task

To define a static filter by using the Filter window:

Procedure

  1. Select the Define Filter option.
  2. Select an operator from the Operator list.
The list of available operators changes depending on the type of data (text, numeric, or date) required for the field.
    • If you want the filter definition to be evaluated as the opposite of the operator that you selected, select the Not check box
    • Depending on the characteristics of the filter, do one of the following:
      • If the Values button is available, click it to see the list of predefined filter values. Select one or more values to include in the filter definition. Then click OK.
      • Enter a comma-separated list of values in the Values field.

The evaluation for values is case sensitive; use uppercase and lowercase letters carefully.

  3. When you are finished, close the Filter window. The filter definitions appear in the Filters pane.
You must close the Filter window before you can run a query.
  4. If you close the Filter window without defining a filter, or if you want to change a filter definition, double-click the field in the Filters pane to reopen the window.
You can group filters to create complex filter expressions.
