New E-Mail Template
- Name
- Required: Type a name for the e-mail activity. This is displayed in the E-mail Activity list.
- Description
- Type a description for the e-mail activity.
- Record number of e-mails opened
- Select this option to collect statistics about the number of e-mails opened by the target customers. Once the e-mail activity has been delivered, this total displays as both a raw number, and as a percentage of the number delivered.
- Record all e-mails opened and link clicks with Coremetrics
- Select this option to enable the e-mail based on this template to forward requests to Coremetrics. The collected statistics are available when viewing your reports at the Coremetrics site. This option incorporates additional Coremetrics information into the tags added for links, content spots, and e-Marketing Spots.
- E-mail Subject
- Enter the e-mail subject as it should display to target customers in their e-mail client software.
- Content Format
- Select the format of the content that the e-mail contains. This affects how the e-mail message is displayed to the customer. This is either HTML or Plain Text. Customers might use e-mail client applications that do not support the rendering of e-mail messages that display HTML. Furthermore, note that if you select HTML, you must ensure that any additional HTML code that you add must use valid HTML tagging.
- Attributes
- Use this list to insert predefined tags into your template. For example, if you select First
Name, and then click Insert, a placeholder is inserted into the template that is replaced by
the target customer's first name when the e-mail is rendered. The options include:
- First Name
- Select this option to dynamically insert the customer's first name in the e-mail.
- Last Name
- Select this option to dynamically insert the customer's last name in the e-mail.
- Link
- Select this option to insert a dynamic link in the e-mail. If you select this option, the
following elements display:
- Click action for link
- Select an option from the list. The options include:
- Select a predefined click action
- Selecting this option displays a secondary Predefined click actions list. This list
includes the following options:
- Display product
- Select this option to create a hyperlink to a product. This option displays a Product name field in which you can enter the product name. Beside this field are buttons that allow you to search for a product, or to browse the catalog.
- Display category
- Select this option to create a hyperlink to a category page. This option displays a Category name field in which you can enter the category name. Beside this field is a button that allows you to list the available categories.
- Add to shopping cart
- Select this option to create a hyperlink that adds an item directly to the recipient's shopping cart. When a recipient clicks this link, a browser opens at your store, and the customer's shopping cart is populated with the selected item. Beside this field are buttons that allow you to search for an item, or to browse the catalog.
- Add to interest list
- Select this option to create a hyperlink that adds an item directly to the recipient's interest list. When a recipient clicks this link, a browser opens at your store, and the customer's shopping cart is populated with the selected item. Beside this field are buttons that allow you to search for an item, or to browse the catalog.
- Unsubscribe
- Select this option to create a link that directly updates the database so that the user will no longer be eligible to receive e-mail activities.
- Specify a URL as click action
- Selecting this option displays a secondary URL field. Enter the target of the link into
this field. It should include the full HTML code, including the
http://
orhttps://
prefix.
- Text
- Enter the text to display in the e-mail. The text entered here will display as a link. If a customer clicks the link, it performs the action that you defined using the Click action for link field.
- Record the number of clicks
- Select this option to gather statistics about the link. These statistics display when later viewing the completed e-mail activity's summary. Note that this option is unavailable if you are creating an unsubscribe link.
- Link Name
- This field displays when you have selected Record all e-mails opened and link clicks with Coremetrics. Enter a name that uniquely identifies this link in the template from any others. The name differentiates the links when viewing reports.
- Content
- Select this option to dynamically insert some dynamic content in the e-mail. This content must be predefined. You can either enter the name into the Content field, or selected from a list of defined content, by clicking List.
- e-Marketing Spot
- Select this option to dynamically insert an e-Marketing Spot in the e-mail. This e-Marketing
Spot must be predefined. You can either enter the name into the e-Marketing Spot field, or
select one from a list of defined e-Marketing Spots, by clicking List.If you select the e-Marketing Spot option, then select a Display Type option. This option defines how the e-mail template locates the e-Marketing Spot JSP file on the server when it comes time for the server to generate the e-mail. Consult with a store developer to choose the right option. Options are:
Option Description EMSpot Display Choose this option if the e-Marketing Spot JSP file for the e-Marketing Spot you specified in the template is named eMarketingSpotDisplay.jsp and it is stored on the server in your store's /include directory, that is: WCDE_installdir/workspace/Stores/WebContent/StoreDirectory/include/eMarketingSpotDisplay.jsp
Email EMSpot Display Choose this option if your store has registered a Struts view to store the location of the e-Marketing Spot JSP file for the e-Marketing Spot specified in the e-mail template. Registering a Struts view for this purpose is required if the name and location of the e-MarketingSpot JSP file is anything other than:
WCDE_installdir/workspace/Stores/WebContent/StoreDirectory/include/eMarketingSpotDisplay.jsp
WS EMSpot Display This option is not applicable to HCL Commerce Accelerator.
- Insert
- After you have defined the element to include in the e-mail using the Attribute tools, click Insert to add the element to the template.
- Preview Template
- Click this button to see how the body of an e-mail resulting from the current template will display to customers. This preview does not include the subject, because that is defined by the e-mail activity.
