Creating an application profile template

Security Analysts can create customized attributes for the application profile template. These customized attributes are used whenever a new application is created.

About this task

Each organization has particular application information that they care about. For example, you might find it important to know whether the application is a release or a fix pack version. Create a "Release" attribute and a "Fixpack" attribute, and make them both single value. Then, users can insert the version number for each attribute when they create application profiles.

Procedure

  1. From the Portfolio tab in the Monitor view, select Edit Application Attributes from the menu.
  2. Use the Edit Application Profile Attributes page to create customized attributes for the profile template that is used to define information about an application. The predefined application attributes appear at the top of the list on the Edit page.
    1. Add an attribute and give it a name.
    2. By default, the new attribute displays in the second column of the profile page. Change its Layout if you prefer.
    3. Select a Type that displays on the profile page (single value, multi-line, comma-separated, dropdown) and click Apply.
Note: To edit the Type value after the attribute is saved in the profile, you must delete the attribute and create a new one that has the values that you want.
    1. If you select dropdown as the Type, the Edit Dropdown Values page opens. Modify the attribute's appearance in the main Applications tab by creating values that use different text colors and text emphasis. Modify the summary chart html-colors if required. Use a hex format (for example, #C0C0C0) or text. If any of the chart colors are empty, a default palette is used instead.
    2. If you select formula as the Type, the Edit Attribute Formula page opens. Create a formula that calculates risk ratings or displays issue information in the application summary charts.
  3. Clear the Visible check box if you do not want an attribute to be visible or available for searching and filtering. By default, attributes are visible in the Applications tab. When they are visible, they are available for searching and filtering. The attribute data is kept in the database regardless of whether the attribute is hidden from view or not.
Important: When you delete an attribute from the profile template, the attribute disappears from every application that uses it. Tell your users when you delete or hide an attribute from the template so that they are not surprised when they work with their applications.
  4. Click Apply to save your changes and return to the Applications tab.
